THE CONTROVERSY
Cryogenics, is a controversial part of modern science. The debate of whether or not a person is actually dead after his/her heart stops beating, or if a person is only dead after brain death, raises many opinions from those who criticize the idea and claim illigitimacy. These are a few of these topics that have been brought up in the debates over cryogenics.
Wait, How much?!
To no surpise, one of the biggest problems people see when researching cryogenics is its hefty price tag. If you want to preserve just your brain it'll cost you a cool 10 grand, And for the whole shabang, body and all, it'll cost over 200,000 U.S. dollars. For most, this seems absurd, paying all of ones life savings to pay for a highly experimental procedure, that may or may-not work. And to add to the gasps, no one has ever been revived from a cryogenic preservation, in fact, science doesn't even know how... Yet.
Magicaly Healed... or not
What most people don't understand is that people frozen to prevent death from disease, will still be dying when they are hypotheticaly thawed. Some might combat that by saying that people will only be thawed out when a cure is available for that disease, but then that puts a very big astrisc mark in the fine print. Imagine being frozen, and not knowing when you'll be revived, or if anyone you know will still be alive!
FUTURE!!!!!!!
Though often the topic of sci- fi films and comedies, Future shock can happen to real people. Ok, well maybe a little less dramatic than in hollywood, but PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) can happen to those who have been put under great amounts of stress in a short period. This is most commonly found in soldiers, post duty. Another concern is whether the person will be able to function with the new society. As ben franklin once said, "theres only two things for certain, Death and taxes." though he might be wrong about death, he had a point about taxes and government. Will these new members of society still be treated the same by the government and its people? Will they be expected to pay tax, or perhapse pay a debt to society, aquired during their absence?
Were gonna need a bigger boat...
One of the many things we dont have as a human race, is hospitable lands. In fact, as of 2014 we have estimated over 7 billion people live on our little blue and green paradise, and that sonly ducumented people, there are still millions of un documented people in the world. As harsh as it sounds, Death is our only real method of population control. one of the big debates really underlines this concern, should people be allowed to come back to life and rejoin the rest of the crowded world?
